I recently visited Paris. Cold and windy, but I spent a warm and dimly lit afternoon in the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature in the Marais. A rather grim and faintly embarrassing premise for a museum, and it's difficult to understand how it remotely speaks to the average passer-through who doesn't own a chateau and a load of massive hunting dogs. However, there was a great intervention by Carolein Smit; a gathering together of her porcelain bestiary. The stuff in the museum is itself completely grotesque—dead animals and gold, basically—so her collection of sad dogs and mice-in-pearls fits right in among the permanent displays.
